Advent 2020

Schedule | Christmas Eve | Serve

Advent is the church’s annual observance during the four Sundays leading up to Christmas when we remember Christ’s first coming as a baby born into this world. In the Bible, Jesus is also referred to as Immanuel, which means “God with us."

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." — Luke 2:10-11

COVID-19

Updated on Sep 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Thank you for being patient and prayerful as we navigate the ongoing pandemic and determine the most loving ways to "know, love and care for" those in our community. We are especially grateful for our COVID-19 task force that's faithfully served our church over the last year.

In-person

Update: As LSQ Kids resumes in-person programming in the Social Hall (downstairs below the Auditorium), we are asking everyone, whenever you're downstairs, to wear a mask, which includes the restroom areas, the Sunday Service teams area or when dropping off/picking up your child(ren). Thank you for helping us care for our families in this way.

We would love for you to join us for worship at Ethical Culture. Registration is no longer required. Doors will open at 10 a.m., and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The balcony is available for those who are unvaccinated and who'd prefer to social distance. Masks will be required when sitting in the balcony.

We will continue to work with the staff at Ethical Culture to provide necessary air flow. If you have any questions, please review our FAQ or email [email protected].

Livestream

If you aren't quite ready to attend worship at Ethical Culture, we understand and invite you to join us for Sunday worship each week on YouTube. Our service begins at 10:30 a.m.

Serve on Sundays

As we continue to resume Sunday programming and ministry activities, we need your help. Please consider serving with us once a month either as an usher, greeter, LSQ Kids volunteer, etc. We have so many ways you can help us "know, love and care for" those in our community.

Prayer and Support

If you're in need for financial assistance or prayer and pastoral care, please let us know. We'd love to support and pray with and for you during this season.

Share Prayer Needs Receive Care

We desire to be “a church not for ourselves.” This means we place the highest importance on the needs of those outside our church, over our own comfort and preferences. It means we desire to serve our neighbors as much as each other. Cities are the best place to serve God and love your neighbor, and Redeemer seeks to live out the love, hope and joy of the gospel in every neighborhood in order to see the city flourish.

Holy Week 2021

Service Schedule | Daily Scripture | Hope for New York | 90 for 9 | Morning Prayer

This year, we want to walk alongside Jesus through Holy Week which spans from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday! We hope you'll invite friends, neighbors and coworkers to join us (either in-person or virtually) for worship. Check out the worship service details and other Holy Week resources and updates below.

Service Schedule

Palm Sunday, March 28

In-person (limited capacity) and livestream, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Registration to attend at Ethical Culture will open at noon on Monday, March 22.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, which is mentioned in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It is always the Sunday before Good Friday (the crucifixion of Jesus) and Easter (the resurrection of Jesus).

During service, we'll share about this year's Easter Sacrificial Offering (ESO) that will take place the following Sunday. ESO is an annual special offering to support the work of Hope for New York, our partner for mercy and justice outreach to the city. (See more below.)

Good Friday, April 2

No LSQ services

Since we aren't able to have a Good Friday service this year, see other service offerings here.

Easter Sunday, April 4

In-person (limited capacity) and livestream, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Registration to attend at Ethical Culture will open on Monday, March 29 at noon.

Easter is the church’s annual observance of the resurrection of Christ after his crucifixion. While we don't know the exact date of the resurrection, the church celebrates it in the spring as a symbol of new life. During service, we'll share updates about 90 for 9, our 90-day prayer initiative to pray for our loved ones who don't yet know the hope found in Jesus. Also, as mentioned above, 100% of our offering will go to support the work of Hope for New York, our partner for mercy and justice outreach to the city.

Daily Scripture Reflections

This year we want to walk alongside Jesus through Holy Week which spans from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Below is a day-by-day breakdown of what Scripture tells us happened on each day. Each of the gospels presents a glimpse of the story, but to get a fuller picture you really need to piece the gospels together. We encourage you to dedicate time each day to reading and meditating through them. Our hope is that your heart is filled with joy and that you discover something new as you reflect on the days leading up to Christ’s death and the celebration of his resurrection.

90 for 9

90 for 9 is our church-wide prayer initiative that began on Sunday, Feb 14. We've asked congregants to commit to praying for 9 people — those who don't yet know the hope of Christ — for 90 seconds for 90 days. Easter is the halfway point, but it's not too late to start praying. We believe in the power of prayer, and we long to deepen our commitment to prayer as our church family looks ahead to all that God is calling us to do as we seek to bring joy to the city.

When Redeemer was started in 1989, the most common refrain was, “We don’t want to have a church for ourselves, but for people who don’t like church.” More than 20 years later, that is still the motivation behind everything we do. Although we worship using the resources of orthodox, Presbyterian tradition (rather than choosing the music or worship style that suits the leadership or the majority), we always try to keep our eyes on what would most help include the skeptical New Yorker who is trying out church for the first time.

Marriage Lab

Are you newly married? Are you interested in meeting other newly married couples? Marriage Lab is a ministry for couples in their first year of marriage which consists of a monthly gathering of newlyweds grouped with seasoned mentor couples, led by Dr. Brent Bounds. Marriage Lab focuses on building strong marriages right from the beginning. The time together will be very practical and interactive, addressing topics such as communication, conflict resolution, finances, intimacy and more, and will provide valuable community through your first year of marriage. Redeemer Marriage Lab kicks off in September and enjoys an autumn overnight retreat at Tarrytown House in Tarrytown, NY. We then continue to meet one Wednesday per month at 7:30 p.m. from October through May.

Space is limited to 20 couples.

Preference will be given to those in their first year of marriage and to regular attenders or members of Redeemer. You must be married prior to September 27, 2019. If you are affiliated with a church other than Redeemer, please contact Ellen at [email protected] to be put on a wait list.

Dates: Kick off September 11, 2019; Retreat September 28-29, Monthly Gatherings: October 2, November 6, December 4, January 8, February 5, March 4, April 1, May 6. Note: Because the retreat is integral to the year, we do ask every couple to attend. We also ask that you commit to most, if not all, the monthly sessions as we regularly have a wait list of interested participants.

Cost: $500/couple. This fee represents a fraction of the actual cost; the rest is being subsidized. We think you will feel it is well-worth the money! If this cost upfront is a barrier, please contact Ellen at [email protected] for information on payment options/partial scholarships.
